Ian D’Souza, a renowned physicist and Fellow at Honeywell Aerospace, will deliver a compelling presentation at the upcoming IQT Vancouver/Pacific Rim Conference. With a distinguished career that spans deep scientific inquiry and practical engineering applications, Dr. D’Souza has become pivotal in developing quantum technologies within the aerospace sector.

As the Mission-Science lead for the QEYSSat mission, funded by the Canadian Space Agency, Ian oversees the comprehensive system design and operations for end-to-end quantum communication systems in space.

His work has been instrumental in pushing the frontiers of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) from space, a venture he spearheaded in 2009 in collaboration with the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) on a program supported by Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC). This initiative marked Honeywell Aerospace’s ambitious entry into space-based quantum technologies, setting a benchmark in the industry.

Furthermore, Ian D’Souza actively contributes to Honeywell Aerospace’s strategic advancements in quantum communication, sensors, and computing. His expertise not only shapes the company’s technological direction but also influences the broader quantum technology landscape in his capacity as a Director of the Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) board and a member of the National Quantum Strategy Advisory Council.

Dr. D’Souza’s rich background in theoretical physics and space-systems engineering has enabled him to contribute significantly to start-up ventures, space industry spin-offs, and the development of new materials. He holds patents in various innovative technologies, including surface acoustic wave design, secondary-electron damping surface coatings, and satellite constellation architectures.

At the conference, Ian D’Souza will explore integrating quantum technologies into real-world aerospace applications, discussing the unique challenges and opportunities this fusion presents. His session promises to provide invaluable insights into how theoretical physics meets practical engineering to drive innovation in quantum technology, particularly in the demanding environment of space.

IQT Vancouver · Pacific Rim 2024: Quantum Computing, Communications, and Security—Pathways to Real-World Solutions.

With Vancouver as North America’s gateway to the Pacific Rim, IQT and the Quantum Algorithms Institute are bringing together partners across North America and Asia to showcase the state of quantum computing, communications, and security. This international conference moves beyond the quantum hype to profile quantum computing, communications technologies, and quantum expertise in real-world settings. Sessions will highlight practical applications of quantum algorithms and networking in pharmaceuticals, transportation, finance, and more industries. Attendees will include industry and government executives, end-users, and investors who will learn about the latest developments in these technologies, pathways for companies to get ready for quantum solutions, and ethics and policy considerations in this fast-growing industry.
