In April, Alejandro Montblanch, the Quantum Communications and Networking Lead at HSBC, who is at the forefront of integrating quantum technologies into the financial sector, will speak at the IQT The Hague Conference. Montblanch’s role at HSBC involves leading the bank’s quantum communications and networking efforts, positioning him as a pivotal figure in the exploration and implementation of quantum technologies within one of the world’s largest financial institutions.

In his current position, Montblanch has achieved significant milestones, including completing the first connection of a financial institution to the London commercial quantum network. This accomplishment not only demonstrates HSBC’s leadership in adopting quantum technologies but also sets a precedent for the financial industry’s engagement with quantum networks. Furthermore, Montblanch has pioneered the use of quantum key distribution (QKD) for FX trading, showcasing the potential of quantum technologies to enhance security and efficiency in financial transactions.

Before his tenure at HSBC, Montblanch was a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Ronald Hanson at QuTech (Delft, NL), where he contributed to experimental developments towards the Quantum Internet. His research focused on the foundational aspects of quantum communication, laying the groundwork for his current work in applying quantum technologies in the financial sector. Montblanch completed his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge (UK) under the guidance of Prof. Mete Atature, working on a novel, atomically thin platforms for quantum networks. This academic background gave him a deep understanding of quantum technologies and their potential applications.

At the IQT The Hague conference, Montblanch is expected to share insights from his pioneering work at HSBC, particularly integrating quantum communications and networking technologies in the financial industry. His presentation will likely cover the practical challenges and opportunities of deploying quantum networks and QKD in banking, the implications for security and efficiency in financial transactions, and the broader impact of quantum technologies on the financial sector.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the Netherlands’ fifth global conference and exhibition. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40 panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers, and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance), and Quantum Delta NL, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
