Cathal J. Mahon, the Scientific Lead for the Novo Nordisk Foundation and a technology expert with a rich background in venture capital, R&D, and the commercialization of quantum technologies, will speak at IQT Nordics in June 2024. Mahon’s extensive experience in nurturing high-tech startups, including those in the quantum field, makes him a valuable speaker for the conference, especially for participants interested in quantum technology’s business and investment aspects.

Since 2016, Mahon has been deeply involved in the quantum technology sector. His roles have included serving as interim CEO at Qubiz: Quantum Innovation Center in Denmark and as a Senior Executive Advisor at the University of Copenhagen. In these positions, he was responsible for exploring and enhancing the commercial potential of quantum technologies, demonstrating his expertise in translating complex scientific concepts into viable business opportunities.

In his current role at the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Mahon is instrumental in establishing an Accelerator in Copenhagen for startups and spin-outs within the quantum technology space. This initiative is affiliated with the DIANA Center for Quantum Technologies in Denmark, indicating a strong link between academic research and industry application.

Mahon’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds an M.Sc. in Physics from Trinity College Dublin and a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. His educational background provides a solid foundation for his understanding of the technical aspects of quantum technology. Additionally, Mahon has a graduate diploma in Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School and has served as an external lecturer, showcasing his ability to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
