Eviden supports post-quantum algorithms with its network security solution ‘Trustway IP Protect’

Eviden has announced its Trustway IP Protect IPSec network security solution will soon support post-quantum algorithms, and expands strategic partnership with CryptoNext Security, a leader in next-generation post-quantum cryptography. As quantum computers are a soon-to-become reality, Eviden anticipates its arrival along with its associated security risks by upgrading its Trustway portfolio to be “post-quantum ready”. Trustway IP Protect will enable customers to migrate progressively towards hybrid encryption solutions, thanks to the integration of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms from CryptoNext Security.
With the latest upgrade of Trustway IP Protect, which will be available in Q1 2024, Eviden has effectively implemented the ANSSI recommendations that advocate a gradual, step-by-step transition towards post-quantum solutions. The primary objective is to progressively increase trust in post-quantum algorithms and their uses, while safeguarding the integrity of traditional (pre-quantum) security measures to prevent any setbacks.
Trustway IP Protect is designed to protect customers from the risks of economic espionage and intrusion into IT infrastructures. Based on a crypto module developed in France Trustway IP Protect range offers the most advanced security features to protect communications up to sensitive environments. It is currently going through the ANSSI Standard Qualification (ANSSI QS) and Common Certified EAL4 certification processes, to ensure the highest level of confidentiality to network communications protection. D-Wave’s Quantum-Hybrid solutions optimize Satispay’s growing rewards initiatives in Europe

D-Wave Systems has recently announced a launch on AWS Marketplace, offering a more accessible way for vendors to use its technology.

D-Wave Quantum Inc. and Satispay, an Italian fintech company, announced on October 11 that the companies have built a quantum-hybrid application designed to optimize customer rewards initiatives. Quantum News Briefs summarizes the announcement.
Using D-Wave’s constrained quadratic model (CQM) hybrid solver, the application showed an improvement of 50% in customer rewards programs for the same amount of budget, thus identifying more effective approaches to Satispay’s rewards programs and efforts to increase membership to the revolutionary and independent payment network.
Satispay plans to transition the quantum-hybrid application into production, with internal teams expected to use it weekly. The work between D-Wave and Satispay comes at a time when Satispay adoption is on the rise in countries such as Italy and France, with consumers and businesses alike looking for a seamless, secure and easy way to send, receive and spend money.

Europe creating network infrastructure based on quantum physics

Europe is pushing to create a network infrastructure based on quantum physics. Quantum News Briefs summarizes the October 11 article by Jonathan O’Callaghan in Horizon: The EU Research & Innovation Magazine.
The Quantum Internet Alliance, or QIA, the project brings together research institutes and companies across Europe. The initiative is receiving €24 million in EU funding over three and a half years until the end of March 2026.
‘It is not meant to replace the classical internet, but to work together,’ said Stephanie Wehner, a German native who coordinates the QIA and is a professor of quantum information at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. ‘We’re not going to replace Netflix.’
A key concept in quantum physics is entanglement. If two particles are entangled, no matter how far apart they are in space, they will possess similar properties – for example, both having the same measurement of something called “spin”, a quantum version of the direction that the particles are spinning. The spin state of the particles isn’t clear until they are observed. Until then, they’re in multiple states called superposition. But when one is observed, the state of both particles becomes known.
‘We can use the properties of quantum entanglement to achieve a means of secure communication that is probably secure even if the attacker has a quantum computer,’ said Wehner.
The secure communications afforded by a quantum internet could open up a much broader range of applications that are well beyond the bounds of the classical internet.
The ultimate goal is to extend quantum nodes to much bigger ranges, perhaps 500 kilometres, and create a prototype of a quantum internet that can link remote cities – much like the classical internet relies on different nodes to create a global internet. While a quantum internet could exist for specialised applications as soon as 2029, experts are wary of hazarding a guess about when a full version might be available for a wide range of uses. ‘It’s a very difficult question,’ said Wehner.

Adtran and Orange demo 400G transmission of QKD-secured data across 184km end-to-end system

Adtran announced on October3 its collaboration with Orange on a lab trial of quantum key distribution (QKD) technology, marking a key step towards safeguarding real-world networks from the threat of quantum computer attacks. Quantum News Briefs summarizes.
Using a unique arrangement of the most advanced QKD and WDM technologies, the milestone multi-vendor demo successfully showcased 400Gbit/s transmission of a QKD-secured 100Gbit/s data stream over a 184km SSMF through three QKD links and two trusted nodes. A hybrid approach combining classical cryptography and QKD was utilized, setting a new standard for future-proof security. Running over heterogeneous end-to-end infrastructure, the trial demonstrates the technology’s maturity for widespread commercial deployment. Both the Layer 1 encryption and hybrid key exchange used in the trial are enabled by Adva Network Security’s ConnectGuard^™ solution.
The trial featured Adtran’s products-and-services with OpenFabric^™️ technology for efficient encryption key distribution and optimized link performance. Leveraging a coherent 400Gbit/s DP-16QAM channel, the platform transported a QKD-secured data stream across two trusted nodes and three links, spanning 184km of standard, single-mode dark fiber. One of the trial’s key achievements was overcoming data loss and distance constraints while transporting significant volumes of quantum-secure data alongside the quantum channel. The trial introduced a hybrid key exchange, blending classical asymmetric methods with QKD, creating a robust dual layer of security. While classical key exchange ensures immediate data protection in line with current cryptographic standards and governmental approval, QKD offers future-proof security, resilient against future computational advancements.
