Professor Mikko Möttönen, a renowned figure in the world of quantum information and quantum technology, will be a speaker at IQT Nordics in Helsinki in June 2024. As a professor at Aalto University and VTT and a co-founder of IQM, Möttönen’s extensive research and experience have positioned him as a leading authority in the field. His involvement in theoretical and experimental quantum physics has significantly contributed to advancing quantum computing and related technologies.

Professor Möttönen’s academic journey is marked by a Doctorate in Technology, which he obtained in 2005 from the Department of Applied Physics at the Helsinki University of Technology. Since then, he has published more than 120 scientific articles, including four in the prestigious journals Nature and Science. His work, having been cited more than 6,000 times, underscores the significant impact and recognition he has achieved in the scientific community.

One of Professor Möttönen’s most notable contributions to the field of quantum technology is the spinout of IQM Quantum Computers from his research laboratory. As one of the four founders of the quantum company IQM, he has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academic research and commercial applications in quantum computing.

His achievements have been recognized with several awards and honors, including the Nokia Recognition Award, the Väisälä Science Prize, the Innovation Professor Award, and an Honorary Doctorate. These accolades reflect his exceptional contributions to the field of quantum technology and his role in pioneering research that has enabled the commercialization of quantum computing and devices.

At the IQT Nordics conference, Professor Möttönen is expected to share insights from his groundbreaking research in quantum information. His presentation will likely explore the latest developments in quantum computing, the challenges and opportunities in the field, and the future direction of quantum technology. Given his expertise in both the theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum physics, his talk is anticipated to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of quantum technology today and its potential trajectory.

As the quantum technology landscape evolves rapidly, Professor Möttönen’s insights will be invaluable for researchers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts. His deep understanding of quantum mechanics and its applications in computing makes him a key figure in the ongoing evolution of this transformative technology.
