Horizon Quantum Computing aims to open Dublin office

By Dan O'Shea posted 28 Nov 2022

Horizon Quantum Computing founder and CEO Dr. Joe Fitzsimons, who is from Ireland, notes in his Twitter bio that he has been “slowly drifting Southeast (Dublin-Oxford-Singapore),” the latter city being the home base of his software development firm. But Horizon’s latest move brings the company back to where its CEO started his journey, as Horizon has announced plans to open a European office in Dublin.

The new office will be Horizon’s first outside of Singapore, and the firm plans to recruit more than 10 new employees over the next six months to staff up the location. The jobs to be filled include product managers, as well as a director of engineering, who will build and lead a new software engineering team. Horizon Quantum Computing also plans to partner with local Universities to provide internship opportunities, according to a company statement (Fitzsimons earned his BSc in Theoretical Physics from University College Dublin.)

“We are excited to set up our European office in Ireland, a country with a substantial pool of technical talent,” said Fitzsimons. “Our growth highlights the strength of the quantum computing ecosystem at a time when major tech players are struggling. We’re looking forward to calling Dublin our second home and rolling out further recruitment to boost worldwide operations.”

Horizon earlier this year raised $12 million from China’s Tencent Holdings. The company also was chosen to host a node on Singapore’s evolving quantum-safe network.

Fitzsimons also has spoken at multiple IQT events, including providing a presentation of quantum programming languages at 2021’s IQT Fall conference.

Committed to supporting mutual connections and collaborations between Singapore and Ireland, Horizon Quantum Computing has recently become a Foundation sponsor of the Irish Chamber of Commerce Singapore, with Dr Fitzsimons joining the Chamber’s board.
