The IQT Nordics conference in late June 2024 will feature Kalle Palomäki, Executive Director at Modulight Corporation, where he leads the company’s Quantum Technology Business Unit. Palomäki’s extensive experience in high-tech industries and his leadership in quantum technology make him a notable speaker for the conference, particularly in the burgeoning quantum computing and communications sectors.

At Modulight, Palomäki oversees the development and manufacturing of semiconductor diode lasers, a critical component in the infrastructure of quantum technology. The Quantum Technology Business Unit, under his leadership, is responsible for producing these diode lasers, ranging from epi wafer fabrication to packaged chips and systems. These components are essential for quantum computing and communications, making his work integral to advancing these fields.

In addition to diode lasers, Palomäki’s team is also engaged in the development of other laser technologies, including fiber lasers, solid-state lasers, and Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VECSELs), all of which have significant applications in quantum computing. This broad spectrum of laser technology underscores the diverse applications and challenges in the field of quantum technology.

With over 25 years of experience in international business, leadership, and strategy execution, Palomäki brings a wealth of knowledge to the conference. His career has spanned various leading technology companies, including Amazon Web Services, Adobe, and Synopsys, covering a range of technologies from semiconductor and laser technologies to software and information security. This diverse background gives him a unique perspective on the intersection of different technological domains and their potential impact on the future of quantum technology.

Palomäki’s academic credentials include a Master of Business Administration degree with Honors in General Management and Finance from the Helsinki School of Economics and a Master of Science in Computer Science with Distinction from Tampere University of Technology. His education combines technical expertise with business acumen, an invaluable combination in the rapidly evolving field of quantum technology.

At the IQT Nordics conference, Palomäki is expected to discuss the role of advanced laser technology in quantum computing and communications, using his role at Modulight Corporation as an example. His presentation will likely cover the latest developments in semiconductor diode lasers and their applications in quantum technologies, as well as strategic insights into the commercialization and market potential of these technologies.
