The Report-Reading Quantum Dragon
Computing with Photons is Phun
I prefer to name these newsletters in such a way as to highlight an organization, maybe an individual, but “Markets for Photonic Quantum Computers” is generating a lot of attention and interest, and I just shamelessly want to leverage some of that buzz to boost my own readership and subscribership. Sue me.

The Quantum Dragon’s 1st Appearance on a Podcast
Thanks to Dr. Thomas Ehmer for hosting The Quantum Dragon on his Entangled Health Podcast. This follows The Quantum Dragon taking over Sergio Gago’s Quantum Pirates newsletter, thus starting a trend of the dragon being in greater demand than the human. I’ll take it. Bring it on.
Call for Submissions for “Quantum Computer Music”
Prof. Eduardo Reck Miranda and MIT Press are calling for submissions for a special issue of the Computer Music Journal. Quantum Computer Music will include papers that report on the progress made in the emerging field of Quantum Computer Music, which has been pioneered by Prof. Miranda.
Q+AI including Q+Crypto Early Bird Coming 23 July
Significant early bird savings for the second annual Quantum + AI conference October 19-21in New York City ends on 23 July. Q+AI 2025 has added a bonus seminar track entitled Q+Crypto and offers numerous networking opportunities with well over 250 attendees from around the world. Mentoring sessions conducted by Bob Sutor are another new addition to the event. Information: www.iqtevent.com.
CEO Roundtable from Wall Street Notable Troy Jensen Is Part of Quantum + AI
Well known Cantor analyst Troy Jensen will be moderating an exciting CEO roundtable at Q+AI October 19-21 in New York City. Jensen’s roundtable will include at least four CEO’s from public quantum computer organizations to discuss the state of quantum and the public markets and the opportunities forthcoming. Complete program information: www.iqtevent.com.
Additional speakers announced at Quantum+AI coming in October 2025 in New York City
Ismael Faro (IBM), Mohammed Hassan (PetaQuantum, University of Arizona), John Levy (SEEQC), Paul Rodriguez (Woxon University and Arman Zaribafiyan (SandboxAQ) are just some of the exciting speakers participating at Q+AI in October. See the complete speaker lineup: www.iqtevent.com.
An Elementary Approach to Quantum Computing
This webinar features speaker and co-author Dr. Constantin Gonciulea, presenter and co-author Charlee Stefanski, and moderator Alex Khan discussing Building Quantum Software (Manning). I don’t know if it’ll be entertaining, but you’re almost definitely going to see visualizations and animations you’ve never seen before.

I see Benedict Cumberbatch.
Thanks to María Gragera Garcés for sharing this slide that uses the BBC’s Sherlock Holmes to explain quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum digital signatures, and quantum secret sharing. I’ve never seen the show, so it’s weird not to imagine using Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange to explain quantum stuff.
Prof. Tom Wong’s got jokes.
I’ve stopped sharing content like quantum dishwasher detergent because we don’t actually learn anything from the spurious use of the word “quantum.” However, I’d like to see more of the ecosystem show their lighthearted sides, as Prof. Wong did in this tweet. This link might require a Twitter account.

IQT’s Vertical Dragon
All quantum conferences are the same… except for the ones that aren’t.
Comprehensive Database of Quantum Computing Experiments
Thanks to Dr. François-Marie Le Rége for sharing a snapshot and links to his database of “57+ Quantum Error Correction implementations, with interactive visualizations.” I haven’t scrutinized it yet, but it sure looks like it’s worth bookmarking. This link might require a LinkedIn account.

One cat was harmed in the making of this illustration.
Quantum Formalism announced the launch of “ALL IN Maths ▶︎ •၊၊||၊|။|||| |,” their new AI-narrated podcast. The funny part is what they’re unnecessarily doing to the cat in the illustration. I would’ve awarded bonus points for the use of “adult beverage” in place of “drink,” but better luck next time. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
“It’s about rubber duckies drifting in the ocean.”
I admit to not having watched all 1:48:46 of “Brand New Result Proving Penrose & Tao’s Uncomputability in Physics!”, but Prof. John Preskill characterizes “expound[ing] on undecidability in fluid mechanics” as “fun,” and I avoid arguing with him on general principle.
Violin-Inspired Quantum Computer Music
Listen to Prof. Eduardo Reck Miranda play the violin, and then watch as QuTech’s hilariously named Tuna-5 (a 5-qubit superconducting quantum computer with tunable couplers) “listens” in and composes a response to it. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Zapata AI Job Seekers… only 1 left on this list!
If you were laid off by Zapata AI and would like a free listing in this newsletter, please reach out and let me know. I’ll maintain a list in The Quantum Dragon until everyone on the list has been gainfully employed elsewhere or is otherwise no longer actively job seeking. I might extend this offer to all job seekers, but I’ll start with these layoffs.
- Shawn Gibford Industrial PHDc: Quantum Applications in the Life Sciences

Quantum Noise Detector
Alan Ho and Prof. Michael Biercuk inspired the Resuscitated Quantum Bullshit Detector, but the original(?) has resurfaced on Bluesky. It’s back to reposting a simple “bullshit” or “not bullshit,” so The Quantum Dragon will continue to monitor for challenges, controversies, and debates under this new name from Dr. Bob Sutor.
- Nothing? Maybe everyone’s arguing privately so as to not end up here?
