I read the University of Osaka’s “Cobalt honeycombs open a new path to quantum computing” and somehow realized that IBM’s old heavy hex topology resembled honeycombs. With its bird-named quantum computers, bee branding, and honeycomb-like topology, we should’ve been telling dad jokes about the birds and the bees.

I saw “Scott Aaronson, Former Edison Electric Institute SVP, Joins Qtonic Quantum as Senior Advisor for Critical Infrastructure and Energy Sector Cybersecurity” and immediately assumed that I need to closely follow this company. It seemed like an awfully strange background for Prof. Aaronson, though, and that’s because it ain’t him!
Keysight’s Simu-Letter
I can’t seem to find a link to it on Keysight’s website, but I somehow received a Keysight EDA Newsletter | Simu-Letter. With all the organizations and all the researchers throughout all the land, it’s hard to imagine that no one has thought to send a simu-letter until now.
Quantum Entanglement for Dummies with Senator Schiff
We say quantum is unintuitive, but nothing has been more unintuitive than this. Here’s a United States Senator likening his questions to the “for Dummies” franchise, yet asking CalTech’s Prof. John Preskill and President Thomas Rosenbaum good questions. He also uses humor to make the topic presentable.

Does Yuval Boger have competition? TOPTICA isn’t posting comics as consistently, but I caught this one, did some scrolling, and it’s definitely not the first. More importantly, for this newsletter anyway, there are half a dozen cats helping(?) to illustrate the author’s point.

Imagine a quantum computer that actually transforms. Infleqtion’s Sqale doesn’t transform into a robot, yet, but it does transform between two modes.
Quantum Computational Disadvantage
Dr. Saesun Kim shared a preprint that has me scratching my head hard. Multiverse Computing spent 4 hours, 24 minutes to do something a GPU can do in less than 1 second. That’s 15,840 seconds versus <1. Where are the PopSci headlines for this one? This link may require a LinkedIn account.

I see a reference to the “self help world,” so it’s not meant to be about quantum technologies. That said, the punchline applies to quantum technologies. Disclaimer: NO, I do not search out this stuff. When you search for “quantum” across social media platforms, this is an unfortunate sample of what’s out there.

Quantum Noise Detector
Alan Ho and Prof. Michael Biercuk inspired the Resuscitated Quantum Bullshit Detector, but the original(?) has resurfaced on Bluesky. It’s back to reposting a simple “bullshit” or “not bullshit,” so The Quantum Dragon will continue to monitor for challenges, controversies, and debates under this new name from Dr. Bob Sutor.
- Katie Mack of the Perimeter Institute tried to answer “What is the difference between a regular computer and a quantum computer?” but took some flack in the comments from Dr. John Watrous, Dr. Olivia Lanes, and others.
