Quantum Tech Research at RWTH Aachen One of German Projects Funded by Pentagon

By IQT News posted 02 Jul 2019

(DW.com) The Pentagon reportedly funds projects ranging from commercial to military use. The US Department of Defense has provided $21.7 million (€19 million) to German universities and institutes since 2008 to conduct research, according to Der Spiegel.
RWTH Aachen received $530,000 for “a scalable and high performance approach to readout of silicon qubits” research project, which explores novel methods for qubit selection — key components of quantum computers. RWTH stands for “Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule,” or “Rhenish-Westphalian Technical University.”
RWTH Aachen was established in 1870 as the Royal Rhenish-Westphalian Polytechnic University. The non-technical faculties were created after World War Two, transforming the purely technical educational institution into a university. In 2007, as part of Germany’s Initiative for Excellence, RWTH Aachen was classified as one of nine outstanding German universities.
