Inside Quantum Technology

The Kvantify Koffee-Loving Dragon

Kvantify’s drug discovery platform, Koffee, promises “binding affinity & kinetics in the time it takes to make a cup of coffee,” so The Quantum Dragon wanted to put that claim to the test. The problem is that he actually made and drank some espresso each time, and he’s now been bouncing off the walls of his cave for hours.

IQT NORDICS Additional Keynoters Announced

IQT Nordics taking place May 20-22 at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden announces that Ulrich Hoff (Kvantify) and Samira Nik (European Innovation Council) are additional keynoters over the three-day event. The conference includes several delightful social evening as well as lab visits. Additional information: www.iqtevent.com.

The Granddaddy of all Quantum Weirdness

This is an animated explainer of the double slit experiment narrated by… er… uh… Supergrandpa? This link might require a Twitter account.

The Quantum Dragon Ship

The Quantum Dragon got upset this week after realizing that Uncle Sergio Gago hasn’t featured him in Quantum Pirates lately. In a fit of anger, he took over the ship, ate all the food, and drank all the rum. Fortunately, he’s easily distracted by pirate booty, so the crew was able to put together the high-caliber newsletter you expect.

Quantum Bridge (not Quantum Bridge)

Dr. Bob Sutor has a new analogy involving a bridge, but don’t call it a quantum bridge! Why? Because there actually is a company called Quantum Bridge. Anyway, this analogy is used to define Practical Quantum Advantage, as well as to list the reasons why a vendor may not achieve it.

The ChatGPT Dragon

“Paths into Quantum Technologies Without a PhD” was suggested by SergioGPT and written by BrianGPT.

One common explanation is that quantum algorithm research is simply too difficult.

Don’t be TOO afraid!

But be a little afraid? “Quantum Algorithms: A Call To Action” is written by Robbie King and recommended by Prof. John Preskill. To be honest up front, that’s the only funny line in the article. Nevertheless, The Quantum Dragon thinks that telling people to not be afraid of anything is hilarious.

Quantum Gymnastics

This is a link to an illustration; however, the rest of this Microsoft-criticizing Bluesky thread is worth reading as well.

LEGO Interferometer

The University of Nottingham has apparently built a functional LEGO interferometer. Here’s a photo of it. This link might require a Twitter account.

SWAP Test

“This Is What Quantum Computing Really Means For Machine Learning,” by Dr. Frank C. Zickert, isn’t actually dedicated to the SWAP Test, but Fredkins are my favorite gates, so that’s what caught my eye. Fun fact: the “controlled-SWAP” is also the name of The Quantum Dragon’s favorite dance move.

Zapata AI Job Seekers… only 1 left on this list!

If you were laid off by Zapata AI and would like a free listing in this newsletter, please reach out and let me know. I’ll maintain a list in The Quantum Dragon until everyone on the list has been gainfully employed elsewhere or is otherwise no longer actively job seeking. I might extend this offer to all job seekers, but I’ll start with these layoffs.

Quantum Noise Detector

Alan Ho and Prof. Michael Biercuk inspired the Resuscitated Quantum Bullshit Detector, but the original(?) has resurfaced on Bluesky. It’s back to reposting a simple “bullshit” or “not bullshit,” so The Quantum Dragon will continue to monitor for challenges, controversies, and debates under this new name from Dr. Bob Sutor.
