Inside Quantum Technology

The Karolinska Institutet QLS Dragon

The Karolinska Institutet’s Centre for Quantum Life Science (QLS) aims to foster collaboration, thereby promoting and accelerating the development and utilization of QLS applications. That sounds like so much fun—especially with the involvement of quantum sensors—The Quantum Dragon flew there to try to help out.

IQT NORDICS May 20-22 Keynoters

IQT Nordics taking place at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden is pleased to welcome keynoters Ariel Braunstein (IonQ) and Ebba Carbonnier (Karolinska Institutet) during the May 20-22 conference and exhibition. IQT Nordics offer 50+ speakers, 24 exhibiting organizations and a variety of special networking opportunities. Several lab tours are also offered. For additional information contact www.iqtevent.com.

Editor’s note: I wanted an image of The Quantum Dragon scaring a cat, but multiple AI image generators have no idea what a scared cat looks like.

Scaredy Cat

I guess if I had a non-zero probability of being dead right now, I’d be pretty scared, too, but kudos to Unitary Fund for illustrating it. It looks like it might be the logo for the Unitary Compiler Collection (UCC), which intuitively seems to be related to compilers. This link might require a LinkedIn account.

The Q-CTRL-Stumped Dragon

For the first time in the history of The Quantum Dragon, I shared a press release as-is. Kudos to Q-CTRL—it’s all there: field-tested, precise, undetectable, unjammable, and unspoofable navigation in GPS-denied environments with commercial and strategic advantages.

Have a nice day!

Thanks to Dr. Bob Sutor for sharing SaxonQ’s announcement of a portable room-temperature quantum computer that uses Quantum Machines’ OPX+ control system to demonstrate real-time image recognition of a smiley face… and H₂ simulation, but that’s not as funny.

Where’s Ryker?

You may be familiar with the Where’s Waldo? puzzle books for children, aka Where’s Wally? outside North America. In his article titled May I Introduce You To The Quantum Business Hypester, Dr. Frank C. Zickert inadvertently introduces us to a game where we can look for Jonathan Frakes, aka Commander William T. Ryker.

Scoring with Starmon-5

Prof. Eduardo Miranda used QuTech’s Starmon-5 superconducting quamputer to compose music during a live performance based on the performance of the live performers. This video includes Dr. Vivik Sinha and PhD candidate Ruggero Di Carlo, and mentions Dr. Leonardo DiCarlo.

Pushing Atoms Around

Jennifer Song shared a video clip of ytterbium atoms being slowed down by lasers for eventual entrapment in an optical lattice either for computation by humans or for snacking by The Quantum Dragon (he likes the flavor). This link might require a LinkedIn account.

Knights of the DeteQt Republic

A short time ago in a galaxy you’re quite familiar with, Australia-based DeteQt developed an elegant sensor for a more civilized age…. This is that story.

Uncut Gem

Thanks to Mark McGuire for sharing Quantum Village’s GitHub repository for “a prototype Full Stack fully Open Source NV Center Diamond Magnetometer.” I don’t know how I’ve got three quantum magnetometers in one edition of this newsletter, but here’s one you can potentially build yourself.

Sorcerers & Towers

Dr. Frank C. Zickert is cheating now. His article titled “Are You Among The Chosen To Be Let Into The Secrets Of Quantum Computing?” invokes wizards and towers, so I literally have no choice but to link to it. I tried to close the browser tab, but one growl from The Quantum Dragon burned all the hair off the back of my head.

Zapata AI Job Seekers… only 1 left on this list!

If you were laid off by Zapata AI and would like a free listing in this newsletter, please reach out and let me know. I’ll maintain a list in The Quantum Dragon until everyone on the list has been gainfully employed elsewhere or is otherwise no longer actively job seeking. I might extend this offer to all job seekers, but I’ll start with these layoffs.

Quantum Noise Detector

Alan Ho and Prof. Michael Biercuk inspired the Resuscitated Quantum Bullshit Detector, but the original(?) has resurfaced on Bluesky. It’s back to reposting a simple “bullshit” or “not bullshit,” so The Quantum Dragon will continue to monitor for challenges, controversies, and debates under this new name from Dr. Bob Sutor.
