Rob Smets, Optical Network Architect & Technologist, SURF, will speak on “Quantum Network Vendors and Integrators” at IQT The Hague March 13-15.
In 1994 and 1999, Rob Smets received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the field of optical telecommunication technology and electromagnetism, whereafter he joined Lucent Technologies as a researcher into new photonic technologies and architectures. In 2008 he left Alcatel-Lucent to join TNO as an innovator in the field of information and communication technology. In 2013 he joined the Dutch NREN SURF as optical architect and technologist. At SURF he is responsible for the wellbeing and innovation of the data transport services and optical infrastructure. He has contributed to more than 60 papers and holds more than 5 patents and has been a member of the ECOC TPC from 2014 to 2020.
