kiutra accelerates development cycles for quantum electronics with fast sub-kelvin characterization tool

(kiutra) In recent years significant progress has been made in the fabrication of quantum devices as an ever-growing number of universities, research institutes, and companies joined the race towards a reliable, scalable implementation of game-changing quantum applications, notably quantum computing.
With many questions still to tackle, a major task for this decade is to accelerate the development and characterization of quantum electronics to improve system reliability, size, and performance. For instance, even though the manufacturing process for superconducting circuits has advanced rapidly over the past years, the capacities to test such devices with high throughput remains an open issue, slowing down the role-out of superconducting electronics compared to competing, e.g., atom-based technology platforms.
Current cooling technologies mainly focus on the generation of ultra-low temperatures while at the same time providing large cooling power to operate full-stack quantum computers. These cooling solutions are therefore typically large, complex, and set high infrastructure requirements. Consequently, quantum hardware development and testing are still cumbersome and often dependent on the availability of experienced cryogenic engineers. Moreover, with turnover times of typically more than 24 hours standard research cryostats are not ideal for fast device characterization. Since they also require scarce resources such as Helium-3, a broad application at industrial scale in the future will be limited.
To overcome these obstacles, kiutra explores new ways of providing ultra-low temperatures in a fast, simple, and future-proof manner.

Introducing the L-Type Rapid
kiutra has recently launched the L-Type Rapid (https://kiutra.com/products/l-type-rapid ), a fast characterization tool for straightforward testing of material samples, hardware components, and quantum devices at cryogenic temperatures. With semi-automatic sample loading and turnover times of less than 3 hours, this new tool allows for multiple test measurements per day. Thanks to its cryogen-free cooling system, which is based on closed-cycle cryocooling and kiutra’s multi-stage magnetic refrigeration technology, the L-Type Rapid is very compact and easy to use, making it an ideal tool to boost quantum electronics development. Key features of the system include:
