Inside Quantum Technology

Japan compiles new strategy on quantum tech, AI

(WWW.3,NHK.JP) The Japanese government has compiled a new strategy to develop quantum technology and artificial intelligence. It considers the two fields important to both the country’s economic security and disaster management.

The strategy calls for the development of Japan’s first domestically produced quantum computer in the current fiscal year.

Such a device would vastly surpass the calculating power of existing supercomputers. The government aims to speed up the mass adoption of quantum technology.

It will also utilize AI to predict the scale of damage in major disasters to core infrastructure, such as water supplies and electricity, as well as how long will be needed to get them up and running again.
