Dr. Deirdre Kilbane, the Director of Research at Walton Institute for Information and Communication Systems Science in the South East Technological University, Ireland, will speak at IQT the Hague in 2024. Dr. Kilbane’s role at an institute that focuses on pioneering next-generation technologies, combined with her background in quantum physics, positions her as a key speaker on applying quantum technology in communications and networking.

Walton Institute’s mission is to explore and develop futuristic technologies, particularly in ICT research and innovation, that can be translated into real-world commercial applications for societal benefit. Dr. Kilbane’s leadership in this area involves guiding research that pushes the boundaries of what is technologically feasible, particularly in the realm of quantum technology.

Her academic credentials include a PhD in Quantum Physics, providing her with a deep understanding of the fundamental aspects of quantum technologies. As a Principal Investigator in the SFI Research Centre CONNECT, which focuses on Future Networks & Communications, Dr. Kilbane is at the forefront of research into how quantum technology can revolutionize communication infrastructures.

One of her notable projects is leading the ‘IrelandQCI’ project on behalf of CONNECT. This project aims to develop a national quantum communication infrastructure. It is funded through the EuroQCI Initiative, part of the DIGITAL Europe Programme and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. This initiative is critical in establishing secure communication networks leveraging quantum technology, which is increasingly important in the era of cybersecurity threats.

At the conference, Dr Kilbane is expected to share insights into the development of quantum communication infrastructures and the role of quantum technology in enhancing network security and performance, using her work at the Walton Institute as an example. Her presentation will likely cover the progress of the IrelandQCI project, the challenges and opportunities in implementing quantum communication networks, and the broader implications of quantum technology for future communications systems.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the fifth global conference and exhibition in the Netherlands. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40-panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance) and Quantum Delta NL, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
