Ford Motor is ‘Early in the Game’ with Quantum Computing

(WSJ.com) Ford Motor Co. has been experimenting with quantum computing platform with an eye to future use for optimization of driving routes and improving the structure of batteries for electric vehicles. Ford has been collaborating with NASA’s Quantum Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Silicon Valley since July, when the organizations signed a year-long $100,000 contract. Ford has also automaker recently hired a quantum physicist.
Ken Washington, Ford’s chief technology officer and vice president of research and advanced engineering, explained, “Our mission is to be early enough in the game so that when it’s evolved to the point of maturity and applications that matter to the business, we’ll have an advantage.”
