Bavarian Centre for Quantum Security to Conduct Research on Use of Quantum Computing in Industry

(BayQS) The Bavarian Competence Centre for Quantum Security and Data Science (BayQS) plans to conduct research on the use of quantum computing in industry. BayQS focuses on research into software to help companies to identify the benefits of quantum computing and correctly to assess the risks of using quantum computing to the company’s intellectual property. The research project bundles the knowledge of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security AISEC, with the cybersecurity expertise of the Fraunhofer Institute for Cognitive Systems IKS, and with the QC systems optimisation experience of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS.
The BayQS is coordinated by Fraunhofer AISEC and operates in partnership with the Technical University of Munich TUM, the Ludwig Maximilian University LMU in Munich and the Leibniz Computing Centre (LRZ) at the Bavarian Academy of Science. The state of Bavaria is supporting the project with EUR 17 million in funding for five years. Quantum computing can be used in a variety of applications, from simulations in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, to solving complex optimisation problems in the logistics, finance and insurance industries, to applications in Artificial Intelligence and cyber security.
