Inside Quantum Technology

2019 Will Be Quantum Leap Year for U.S.

(Forbes) In 2019 the U.S. will make the moves needed to secure the lead in the race to build the first universal quantum computer, and also in the race to make our networks and information technologies quantum-ready and quantum safe, according to author Arthur Herman.
The foundation is being set:
–The National Quantum Initiative Act(NQI) has passed Congress. The legislation commits $1.2 billion to quantum information science research through the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the Commerce Department (which houses the National Institute of Standards and Technology or NIST) over the next five years.
–The Administration pushing a national quantum agenda, by issuing its National Strategic Overview for Quantum Information Science (QIS), inaugurating a whole-of-government approach to advancing quantum technology.
–NQI Act will help to spawn a new way of doing quantum technology: the foundry model that rebuilt America’s superconductor industry in the late 1980’s.
