Why You Should Use the SHFQC for Few-Qubit Measurements

June 3, 2022 by Bruno Küng

It all starts with a few qubits: a masterfully engineered few-qubit system forms the groundwork for advances in large-scale quantum computers. We believe there’s no better way to go about this endeavor than with Zurich Instruments solutions. Let me give you our 5 top reasons why you should base your few-qubit setup on the Zurich Instruments SHFQC Qubit Controller.

1. Simplify your setup

One instrument, for both qubit control and readout, which connects directly to your cryostat’s microwave ports: this can be your setup, as shown in the Figure above. Synchronize control and readout signals without extra trigger lines. Simplify the instrument communication and pass all through one API or control software. And thanks to the frequency range of the control channels extending all down to DC - you may even choose to use them for fast flux control!

2. Choose your channel count

Are you working on a single qubit, the next best one? Perfect. The SHFQC is available with 2, 4, or 6 control channels activated, so you buy only what you need. All while keeping the freedom to add additional channels to the SHFQC later. And if the SHFQC gets too small - build up a full QCCS, with the advantages of the SHFQC for fast feedback.

3. Get state-of-the-art signal quality

For your qubits only the best - spurious performance, stability, noise. The double-superheterodyne technology of the SHFQC raises the bar compared to IQ mixing and gives you the performance you need when taking the final set of data. Our track record of publications speaks for it.

4. Tune up your qubits as quickly as possible

Get the best out of your measurement time, and lose no time to instrument communication. The SHFQC lets you perform resonator and qubit spectroscopy at the speed limit set by your device and amplification setup. And by the way, that holds true for the SHFSG and SHFQA as well!

5. Benefit from our application know-how

At Zurich Instruments, you’ll find a team of Application Scientists from all fields of quantum technology. Meet them at events like our user meeting, and check what they publish regularly in our blogs section. And to get started with using our instruments, you can start with a wide variety of Python examples for qubit tune-up.
